THE EFFECTS OF MULTIMEDIA ON STUDENTS’ DESCRIPTIVE
WRITING LEARNING IN FOURTH GRADE

Abstract
The aim of this study is to find
the effects of multimedia on descriptive writing skill of fourth grade
students. This study used quasi experiment with pretest-posttest intact group
design as research design. This study involved 60 students of fourth grade, 30
students as experiment group and 30 students as control group. This study used
descriptive writing skill rubric, questionnaire, and observation as research
instrument. Multimedia was used in experiment group while control group used
conventional media. From the result, the experimental group’s score was
significantly higher than control group; significant (2-tailed) value was 0.00.
The result also showed that there were differences between experiment and
control group through N-gain. Experiment group got 0,4 in average while control
group got 0,2. The questionnaire showed 93% students felt excited using
multimedia, 67% students stated that multimedia helped them in writing, 96%
students thought that multimedia helped them in increasing their writing skill
and 90% students asserted that using multimedia was easy. So, it can be
concluded that multimedia gave higher effects in increasing descriptive writing
skill than learning without multimedia. Furthermore, multimedia gave more
exciting experience in learning writing.
