Heyday is the period of a person's or thing's greatest success, popularity, or vigor. Heyday also has the same meaning with prime or peak. Then, why I call Kim Jong Kook as the king of heyday. It means that Kim Jong Kook has most heyday in his career.
Kim Jong Kook debuted in 1995. As soon as he debuted he got popularity among teenagers. He was in duo called Turbo, gained popularity through South Korea with many awarded songs such as Twist King, Black Cat, White Love, Goodbye Yesterday, Reminiscene, etc. In 2000, the duo Turbo disbanded. The effect of the group disbanded suffered him.
In 2004, he gained his popularity again as a solo. His song 'Han Namja' or 'A Man' had got women's heart and made him got his crown as a romantic man. He also participated the popular variety show 'X-Man' and had a loveline with Yoo Eun Hye. His romantic character in the show strength his title as romantic man. In 2005, he swap 3 grand award (daesang) from all TV stations, SBS, KBS, and MBC. Only 2 people who got daesangs from all TV stations at same time, he and Cho Yong Pil. This made him crowns as the most popular artist in 2005 with his song, 'Lovely'.
In 2006, he had to go to do his army duty. He went in his peak day. He discharged from army duty in 2008 after served the country for about 2 years. He released an album as soon as he discharged from army and again he got his popularity. His song 'More Than Yesterday' topped the music chart. Also he joined the popular variety show 'Family Outing' and got his character as a strong man. The show ended in 2010. He released his album in 2010, but the result didn't come as good as expected.
In 2010, he joined another variety show 'Running Man'. The show is so popular local and overseas. He got a character as 'The Commander'. He again gained his popularity through Running Man. The show made him known internationally. He's so popular in China, South East Asia, Japan, and other countries. He even had a concert in US which showed that he also popular in US. In 2016, he reunited with his group mate, Turbo. They made an album and got a success. Their song topped all music chart in Korea. They have a concert in Korea which make them busy this year.
Kim Jong Kook gets his success in 3 decades, 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s. That's why I call him as the King of Heyday. It because he has most success period among other Korean artist/ celebrities. In my opinion, there is no artist, singer, actors or celebrities who are able to beat him in term of Heyday.
